Prevent Oil Leaks with a New Valve Cover Gasket
The valve cover gasket provides a reliable seal between the cylinder head and the valve cover. This keeps the engine oil neatly inside the engine block and prevents dirt, dust, or moisture from entering from the outside. A good gasket is essential for a dry, well-functioning engine.
Function and Importance of the Valve Cover Gasket
While riding, engine oil circulates to lubricate the valves and valve train. The gasket prevents this oil from leaking out through the connection between the valve cover and the cylinder head. A leaking gasket can lead to oil loss, contamination of the engine block, and even reduced performance. Therefore, it is important to replace it in a timely manner, especially when working on the cylinder head or adjusting valve clearance.
When to Replace?
If the valve cover is removed, for example for maintenance or inspection, it is strongly recommended to always replace the gasket. Old gaskets can become dried out or compressed, leading to small leaks or "sweating." A new gasket offers certainty and prevents extra work later.
Choice of Different Materials
Valve cover gaskets are available in various materials, such as rubber, composite, or paper. Rubber gaskets often offer the best reusability, while composite and paper variants are more economical and provide an excellent seal. Which version you need depends on your motorcycle type and the original construction.
