Crankshaft Seals for an Oil-Tight and Well-Performing Engine
Crankshaft seals provide a reliable seal between the crankshaft and the engine crankcase. They keep the engine oil in and prevent dirt or moisture from entering. A well-sealing gasket is essential for a clean motorcycle and stable oil pressure.
When to Replace a Crankshaft Seal?
Oil leakage at the front or rear of the engine block is often a sign that the crankshaft seal is worn. Oil stains under the motorcycle or a greasy clutch can also indicate this. Timely replacement prevents oil loss, clutch slippage, and damage to sealing surfaces.
Function and Material
Crankshaft seals are made of heat-resistant rubber or Viton with a spring on the inside for constant sealing pressure. Due to age, heat, or incorrect installation, they can dry out or deform. New seals restore the oil seal and keep the engine block clean and reliable.
Installation Tips
Always replace seals with the correct tools to prevent damage to the sealing lip. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly, check the crankshaft for wear, and install the seal lightly greased with engine oil or assembly grease. After installation, check for leaks during warm-up.
Find the Right Crankshaft Seal
Use the motorcycle selector to quickly find the right crankshaft seals for your make, model, and year of manufacture. This ensures you get the correct size, material, and fit for a durable, oil-tight seal.
