Fuel Pumps for a Constant and Reliable Fuel Supply
The fuel pump ensures that the correct amount of fuel is sent to the injectors or carburetor with sufficient pressure. A well-functioning pump is essential for smooth engine running, direct throttle response, and reliable performance, regardless of riding style or speed.
When to Replace a Fuel Pump?
You can recognize a defective fuel pump by starting problems, hesitation during acceleration, or irregular running. A low humming sound when turning on the ignition can also indicate wear. A new pump prevents fuel starvation and protects the motorcycle and injectors from damage due to low pressure.
Types of Fuel Pumps
Motorcycles use different types, depending on the fuel system and placement:
- Electric Pumps: Provide constant pressure for injection systems.
- Mechanical Pumps: Used in older motorcycles with carburetors.
- In-Tank Pumps: Integrated into the tank, quiet and compact.
- External Pumps: Easy to replace and suitable for custom or race applications.
Installation Tips
Install the new pump according to the manufacturer's specifications and preferably replace the fuel filter as well. Check hoses and connections for leaks and use new clamps where necessary. After installation: turn on the ignition to pressurize the system before starting.
Find the Right Fuel Pump
Use the motorcycle selector to easily find the correct fuel pump for your make, model, and year of manufacture. This way, you can be sure that the pressure, capacity, and connection are exactly right for reliable performance and trouble-free riding.
