Clutch lines for a smooth and reliable clutch feel

A well-functioning clutch line is important for smooth clutch operation. The line transmits hydraulic pressure from the clutch lever to the slave cylinder. Over time, the original line can wear out or expand, leading to a vague or slow-engaging clutch point.

Types of clutch lines

There are two main types of clutch lines, each with its own advantages:

• Rubber lines: comfortable and affordable, but can expand slightly under pressure over time, making the engagement point less direct.
• Stainless steel braided lines: maintain their shape, even at high temperatures or during intensive use. They provide a crisp, direct clutch feel and are very durable.

When to replace?

Replace the clutch line if there are cracks, leaks, or if the clutch feels spongy. Especially with older motorcycles, it can be worthwhile to switch to a stainless steel line for an improved feel and long-term reliability.

Installation and maintenance

When installing, pay attention to the correct length and connections. After replacement, it is important to properly bleed the system to ensure no air bubbles remain in the line. Then check for leaks and always use the correct hydraulic fluid according to your motorcycle's specifications.
