Clutch Cover Gaskets for an Oil-Tight Seal
The clutch cover gasket ensures a reliable seal between the engine crankcase and the clutch cover. This prevents oil leakage and protects the clutch from dirt and moisture. A damaged or aged gasket can cause leakage and affect the operation of the clutch.
When to Replace the Gasket?
It is advisable to replace the gasket every time the clutch cover is removed. Older gaskets can harden or tear when the cover is loosened. Also, look for oil spots around the seal or dripping after a ride - these are clear signs that replacement is necessary.
Types of Clutch Cover Gaskets
Depending on the engine type, different versions are available:
- Paper gaskets: widely used, easy to install, and provide a good seal on flat surfaces.
- Rubber or cork gaskets: flexible and reusable in some cases.
- Liquid gaskets: suitable as a supplement or for special applications, but use them only where prescribed.
Installation Tips
Clean both surfaces thoroughly before installation and completely remove any residue from the old gasket. Apply the new gasket dry, unless otherwise indicated by the manufacturer. Tighten the bolts crosswise with the correct torque to ensure even pressure.
