Brake pads for your motorcycle

When you squeeze the brake lever, the piston inside the master cylinder builds up pressure in the brake fluid. This pressure transfers to the pistons in the brake calipers, which push the brake pads against the rotating brake discs. The resulting friction between the pads and discs slows down the wheel. Over time, both the brake pads and discs wear down.

It's crucial to replace brake pads on time. Since service intervals are getting longer, you should regularly check if the brake lining (friction material) is still thick enough. New brake pads are usually 6-8 mm thick, but once they wear down to 1-2 mm, it's time to replace them. Waiting too long can damage the steel brake discs, leading to costly repairs.

When replacing brake pads, you can choose between two types: organic and sintered. Organic pads are usually cheaper and work well for everyday driving. Sintered pads, while also suitable for normal use, perform better if you have a sportier driving style.

Keep in mind, that not every brake disc or caliper is compatible with sintered brake pads. If you're unsure, check your owner's manual or contact our technical team. Goedhart offers the right brake pads for most motorcycles—just select your bike's model, and you'll find the correct pads. Brake pads are sold in pairs, with each pair covering one disc. If your bike has a double disc brake system, you'll need two sets. For front wheels with two calipers, always replace both sets at the same time.
